Installing Overlayed on Linux
May 8 2026
This blog post will walk you through the installation process to get Overlayed up and running!
⬇️ Installing
On Linux, Overlayed is distributed as a Flatpak through Flathub. This is the recommended way to install and run Overlayed across different Linux distributions.
Installing via Terminal
If you haven’t set up Flatpak on your system yet, please follow the official Flatpak setup guide for your specific distribution.
Once Flatpak and Flathub are set up, you can install Overlayed by running the following command in your terminal:
flatpak install flathub dev.overlayed.Overlayed
Graphical Method (Software Center)
Many modern Linux distributions (like Fedora, Linux Mint, or Pop!_OS) come with Flatpak and Flathub support built into their default graphical software centers.
Simply open your Software Center (e.g., GNOME Software or KDE Discover), search for Overlayed, and click Install.
Running Overlayed
After installation, you can launch Overlayed directly from your desktop environment’s application launcher. Alternatively, you can start it via terminal using:
flatpak run dev.overlayed.Overlayed
🥳 Congratulations!
You now have Overlayed and you can follow the steps provided in the app to get started!
